A mini-EP of Coheed & Cambria/Death Grips mashups (with a couple of other samples thrown in for good measure).
To break up the monotony of making The Odd Ex-Couple, I started tinkering around with the 8-bit tracks made from Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. 1 made by the excellent Jonathan Bloodworth (check out the full album here:
blooders23.blogspot.com/2011/02/coheed-and-cambria-good-apollo-im.html). Since these tracks serve as pseudo-instrumentals for songs that don't have proper ones, they seemed like prime mashup material. Hence, "Black Dice Suffering" was born. Feels really good to finally make a mashup using that vocal, since it's one of my underrated Death Grips faves.
Then the other two mashups came into place so that song wouldn't have to stand on its own. Still a bit iffy on "Lock Your Home," but I'm surprised at how well "Ten Speed/One Way" worked out. It really brings out the malice of Debbie Harry's lyrics.
Anyway, The Odd Ex-Couple is coming along but it's far from done. This might be the first time since I started pushing out mashup albums that I fail to deliver one two months after the last. (Has it really almost been a month since I dropped Summer Camp? Damn.) However, I'm working my hardest to make it as good as I can, especially since shit like "Spread Eagle Cross the Block" is so damn hard to work with in terms of mashups and meter and all that music shit. Until then, enjoy these little novelties.
